Podcast 26 – Jude

Today Rich and I talk about the amazing book of Jude and its application to our modern lives in the church.  Being written so long ago you would think that the Bible wouldn’t really apply to our lives today but nothing could be further from the truth.  God knows the hearts of men and women and has created his word to speak through the centuries to the needs of our hearts.

Podcast 24 – The Gates of Hell Shall Not Prevail

Today Rich starts reading in 1 Chronicles 11:45 where we talk about ancient walled cities and the highly fortified gates that were an important strategic defense.  Then we go to Matthew 16:13-17 where Jesus tells us that the gates of Hell shall not prevail against the church.  This is a passionate and exciting study of our role as conquerors against the kingdom of darkness.

If you thought you had no chance of winning a CD from Just Plain Darin, so did everyone else.  Apparently everyone overestimated our popularity of the show and thought they had no chance to win.  Well guess what, there are still 4 CD’s left!!  Unbelievable, I know!  Send your name and mailing address to show (at) dontblamejesus (dot) com and we’ll send one out to you.

Podcast 22 – July 4 and Hebrews 11

Hey again everybody, thanks for tuning in.  Today I start with a short reading that was excerpted from Shane Idleman’s book One Nation ‘Above’ God.  His books and speaking excerpts can be viewed at www.ShaneIdleman.com.

I briefly mention the new OS3 that just came out for the iPod Touch and the cool FREE Bible Reader software I got from OliveTree.  Very cool and extremely functional.

Next Rich takes us through chapter 11 of Hebrews and the very beginning of chapter 12.  I know you’ll be blessed by his take on this pivotal section of Hebrews.

As always, please feel free to leave your comments in this blog post or email us directly at show (at) dontblamejesus (dot) com.  God bless.

Podcast 21 – Jon & Kate, Standing at the Door, and more Anger Management

Today starts off with me talking about the television show on TLC called Jon & Kate Plus Eight.  I talk about the show from the perspective of having watched it from the beginning and how it has changed over the years.

Next, Rich reads the wonderful poem by Sam Shoemaker called “I Stand by the Door.”  It is a reminder of our duty as believers to bring people to the same place we have been brought and not to forget where we once were.  All too often Christians can forget what it was like to be a non-believer and lose their empathy for the lost.

Next we transition into a revisitation of the topic of our anger towards others when they do us wrong from the perspective of our having been forgiven.

Please feel free to leave a comment or send us an email at show (at) dontblamejesus (dot) com.  God bless you and thanks for listening.

Beauty whispers His name

Some things are just beautiful in and of themselves.  Nature, Art, Music, they all have something intrinsically in themselves that is beautiful and is capable of moving our hearts and minds.  As a tool, media is neither good nor evil, but is shaped by those who create it.  But irrespective of who creates it, and the motives they may have had, sometimes the art is just simply beautiful.  I saw this video and thought, “Man, God is so amazing to create sound in such a way that the careful attention to harmonics can evoke an emotional response,”… or something like that. :)   It is a reminder to me that everything beautiful, indeed, every good and perfect gift comes from above.  God is an amazing craftsman, the details present in His universe whisper His name.

Anyway, I wanted to share this with you.  This song has always been one of my favorites.  Because of my wife and my choral backgrounds, this presentation was particularly inspiring.

The title on YouTube doesn’t do it justice.  It is labeled “Amazing Choir uses hands to simulate storm”.  I hope you enjoy it.

Podcast 20 – Anger and Inverness

Today Rich and I discuss anger and how difficult it is to follow the example of Christ and be angry yet sin not.  Our anger often times gets the better of us and is part of the natural state of mankind.  Rich opens up the Bible to the book of Ephesians in chapter 4 verses 26 – 32 and chapter 2 verses 8 – 10.

Next Rich tells us about some of his ministry history starting in his senior year of high school.  It is an exciting adventure of faith as Rich seeks to minister in Inverness Scotland.

Podcast 19 – The Shack, Spiritual Gifts and the Walk of Faith

This week Rich and I really peg the “Controvery-O-Meter” as we discuss the Christian fiction novel The Shack and whether the spiritual sign gifts are for today.  Yeah, I know… just string us up right now.  We also talk about the walk of faith that we are called to as followers of Christ and how hard that can be sometimes.

Podcast 18 – Political Un-correctness and other Unpatriotic Thought Crimes

This week is a total downer.  Rich and I talk about the new Department of Homeland Security Report.  With the broadest of strokes the DHS has attempted to paint all conservative American citizens as whacked out right-wing extremists.  As you know there are whack jobs in every corner of the world, but this report crosses the line by associating their unorthodox views with the majority of good American citizens.  Not cool.  This is an assault on freedom of speech and ultimately an assault on the freedom of thought in the US.  We are hoping for better things from America.

We also talk about Steve Taylor’s ground breaking song and video titled “I Blew Up The Clinic Real Good.”  Although this 80′s music video is obviously satire, Rich and I both feel that the DHS should travel back in time and retroactively arrest Steve Taylor for this thought crime.  Bombing and clinics is not a joking matter… just try saying that in an airport. :)

Podcast 17 – Love and Salvation in Philippians 3

Rich and I go through the 3rd chapter of the book of Philippians… eventually.  We also talk at length about how short we fall in our attempts to have a righteousness of our own making.  It is very easy to take pride in our standards of morality and our seeming superiority over others in the world.  What we forget is that our ultimate yardstick upon which we should measure our righteousness is Christ and against that yardstick we fall so completely short.

As I mentioned in the podcast, if you want to learn how to be saved you can find more information from our friends at BlueLetterBible.org.  As always if you have questions or comments please send them to us at show (at) dontblamejesus (dot) com or post them in the comments section of this post.
